You spend a lot of time in your home, so you want its air quality to be as good as possible. There are several simple things you can do to keep your home’s air fresh and healthy.

Change the Air Filters

The air filter in your HVAC system traps dust, pollen, pet dander, and other pollutants, but it needs to be clean to do its job properly. You should replace it every one to three months. Change it more often if someone in your home smokes, you have pets, or a member of your family has allergies or asthma.

Vacuum and Dust Regularly

A lot of dust and dirt falls on your carpets. That’s in addition to whatever gets tracked in from outside. You should vacuum your home a few times a week so the air quality stays at its best. Dust using a damp cloth, as a dry one just stirs dust up rather than removing it.

Schedule Annual Tune-Ups

Schedule annual HVAC tune-ups to keep your indoor air quality high. If you have a furnace and air conditioner, each of them needs an annual maintenance inspection and cleaning. A heat pump needs two because it works throughout the year.

Our team at Evans Mechanical in Eureka, CA can perform these annual tune-ups for you. We have NATE-certified technicians qualified to work on all makes and models of air conditioners and heaters.

Use Cooking Vents

Cooking is a major source of indoor air pollution. You should always turn the vent on when cooking. You can open a nearby window to remove even more cooking pollutants.

Control Humidity

If your home is humid, it’s an environment conducive to mold and mildew growth. While your air conditioner dehumidifies your home, it could use some help. Consider having a whole-home dehumidifier installed.

Get an Air Purifier

There are various kinds of whole-home air purification equipment available today. They range from filter to UV types. After using one, you’ll be amazed at the improvement in your indoor air.

At Evans Mechanical, we install, repair, and maintain heating, cooling, and indoor air quality equipment for the people of Eureka, and we’ve been serving Humboldt County since 1995. You can also count on us for traditional or tankless water heaters. Please get in touch today to schedule an appointment.

Excellent service from start to finish. Joe came out to give us an estimate on what we would need for a new furnace, never pressured us to buy the top of their line just giving us options on what we would need for our home. Then the date set for installation Thomas and Ryan came out on time and did a great job.

Kathi J.

Evans Mechanical is an excellent service committed to customer satisfaction and guaranteed quality workmanship. Our water heater burst and they were very responsive. They sent a technician out the same day and it was determined the heater was beyond repair.
